The type of northern beaches carpet cleaning that you use will determine the cleanliness of your carpet. There are many carpet shampoos on the market, but most are ineffective at cleaning your carpet. Here are some tips to help you maintain your carpet without relying solely on cleaning products.
Blot… Don’t Rub!
You’re kids are running through the house, drinking juice. Then boom! You’re worried about your carpet getting ruined when you see that your child has tripped over the tail of a dog. There’s juice all over the place. You’re first reaction is to rub the juice out quickly before it dries. It’s actually not a good idea to do this.
You will need a white, dry cloth or paper towel to blot the area of your carpet that has stains. Remove all the solids by blotting towards the middle. To remove the stain, you will need a liquid clear detergent. Dishwashing liquid is ideally recommended. Clear detergents are recommended because many liquid detergents contain harmful chemicals which can discolor or fade your carpet. Once the detergent is completely gone, remove it with a white paper towel or cloth. Cover the stain with a towel or dry cloth, then compress it and let it dry for at least 24 hours.
Vacuuming on a weekly basis
Vacuuming is one of the hardest chores to do. This is because many homeowners believe that vacuuming carpets daily will keep them looking new. It is not true. Ask yourself: “If my carpet is rarely used, then why should I vacuum it daily?” This is my point.
A high volume of foot traffic can cause dirt and soil to accumulate on the carpet, particularly when shoes are worn. If your home is vacant for 6+ hours a day and there is a rule that no shoes are allowed on carpets, then vacuuming the carpet twice a month is enough to keep it clean.
Know Your Cleaning Products
It is important that you know what chemical products are being used on your carpet. Some carpet cleaners are not just harmful for your carpet but can also be hazardous to you and the environment. Inhaling some carpet cleaners can be dangerous. Most professionals use masks, and advise you to stay out of the home during the process.
Read the label. You should be aware of the chemicals and toxins you use in your house and on your carpet. Green cleaning is safer and more environmentally friendly. These products contain natural and organic ingredients that are biodegradable. Eco-friendly, these products have been proven to work better than carpet cleaners. The best of both worlds.
